    Remember The Titans—based on actual events—stars Denzel Washington as football coach Herman Boone who becomes the first black faculty member at a newly integrated Alexandria, Virginia high school. Unwelcome by both teachers and students, Boone is faced with the challenge of putting together a winning team made up of both races in the midst of hostility and fear.

    Special features include two audio commentary tracks—the first with Director Boaz Yakin, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Writer Gregory Allen Howard and a second with real coaches Herman Boone and Bill Yoast; six deleted scenes; and three featurettes: Remember The Titans: An Inspirational Journey Behind The Scenes (21 minutes), Denzel Becomes Boone (six minutes), and Beating The Odds (six minutes). There is also a Movie Showcase and a LOT OF up-front ads.

    The H.264 AVC-encoded Blu-ray Disc exhibits well-balanced contrast and nicely saturated colors, creating a bold, natural-looking experience. Details can be delivered well, but there are scenes that look overly soft. Black levels are deep and shadow detail is impressive. Fleshtones can often look too red and while source element artifacts aren't overly noticeable, they can distract at times. Minor edge enhancement can also be seen over high-contrast transitions.     The uncompressed linear PCM 5.1-channel soundtrack can be lacking in full dimensionality, as the much higher-level front channels often overshadow the surrounds. Dynamic range is fairly limited, and the mix lacks depth that can help bring a soundtrack to life. Fidelity is generally good with respect to dialogue and music. The LFE channel is incorporated well, delivering tight, impactful bass. (Danny Richelieu)
