WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
Recognized with an Academy Award® for Best Sound, Last Of The Mohicans is a breathtaking portrait of the beauty and savagery of the colonial American frontier. Based on the classic by James Fenimore Cooper, Day-Lewis stars as frontiersman Hawkeye, the adopted son of Mohican chief Chingachgook (Means). He falls in love with Cora (Stowe) the daughter of a British Colonel, but their love is tested by the warring between their two cultures. This is the 117-minute director’s edition.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is panoramic at 2.21:1 with well composed widescreen images. The picture quality is mostly noise-free, sharp and consistently balanced throughout most scenes with accurate flesh tones overall. It looks extremely good.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby Stereo SR® soundtrack is excellent in every respect and won an Oscar® for Best Sound. There is excellent stereo definition and extended bass which makes for a convincing cannon-fought battle scene at night. The Dolby Surround® mix is dynamic and aggressive with a beautiful music score.
