WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
A magnificent cinematic masterpiece from director David Lean. Peter O’Toole stars as Lawrence of Arabia, the legendary Englishman who united the Arab tribes against the Turks during the World War I 1917-1918 Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire. This Criterion Collection boxed set contains a brochure, a layout of chapter stops, and supplemental still photos.
LaserDisc Picture:
Filmed in Technicolor’s® enhanced realistic process in which the color saturation level was toned down, Lawrence Of Arabia has beautiful color, not exaggerated as was previous dye-transfer Technicolor productions. The Criterion digital video transfer in the CAV format is flawless and of uncompromising quality. The 2.16:1 transfer by telecine colorist, Gregg Garvin, from a pristine print, struck from the restored Super Panavision® 70 interpositive, is amazingly detailed.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The six-track magnetic soundtrack has been remixed and encoded in Dolby Surround®. The sound is notable with excellent bass extension and wide dynamic separation. Maurice Jarre’s score is wonderful and musically supportive of the mesmerizing vastness of the desert and fierce battle scenes photographed by esteemed cinematographer, Freddie Young.
