Story Synopsis:
When a congressman dies, a small-time con man, Thomas Jefferson Johnson (Eddie Murphy), with the same name as the deceased legislator runs for Congress, and miraculously wins! The Distinguished Gentleman starts as the stereotypical “con man with a heart” story, but develops into a humorous rip on the realities of politics as he plans to cash in on the perks and power of his new position but instead battles official corruption by setting out to expose the entrenched powers .
LaserDisc Picture:
The transfer is matted to 1.85:1. Picture quality is excellent with good, consistent color balance and natural looking flesh tones. The picture looks sharp, clear and bright with no trace of video artifact disturbances or noise.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
Sound is good although there is no surround, and the stereo presentation is limited to the well recorded music. Dialogue intelligibility is excellent but the soundtrack could have been improved with a better defined stereo mix and aggressive surround envelopment.
