Story Synopsis:
A charming romantic comedy set within Opera Europe in Paris. This is a story of the swollen egos of a talented, but difficult diva and an opera company with impossible artists, commanded by a virtually unknown, temperamental conductor. In the course of a chaotic production of Wagner’s Tannhauser, the diva and maestro fall in love.
LaserDisc Picture:
The digital video transfer is impressive with its sharp, noiseless picture and excellent color balance. The aspect ratio is matted at 1.93:1.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is magnificent and noteworthy for the beautiful music of Richard Wagner. The Dolby Surround® envelopes the listener with excellent soundstage imaging and depth. The music score features the voices of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Rene Kollo, Hakan Hagegard and Waltraud Meier. Accompaniment is by the Ambrosian Singers and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Marek Janowski and featuring pianist Catherine Cournot. This LaserDisc excels on home theatre systems with excellent music reproduction capability.
