WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
Paul Mazursky’s comedy about a competent yet down-on-hits director, Harry Stone (Danny Aiello), who is offered a high-concept piece of sci-fi “teenage dribble” to direct. Forced to accept the challenge, if for no other reason than back taxes and alimony payments, he nevertheless feels this movie will be the end of a distinguished career.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture quality is a bit rough overall although the picture is clear and sharp with no noticeable artifacts. What impairs the presentation is inconsistent fleshtones which tend to have a reddish cast. The measured aspect ratio is 1.85:1.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is good with an acceptable enveloping, but subtle surround ambience that changes with each scene. The dialogue has a natural, dimensional stereo “feel” to it. The music score by Michael Legrand is first rate and well recorded.
