WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
Writer-director John Singleton’s acclaimed Boyz N The Hood is a heavy dose of nervous reality that is emotionally riveting. It tells the coming-of-age story of a young boy who is sent by his mother to live with his father in the gang-plagued South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles where he is confronted with the daily assaults and incitements of a world poisoned by poverty, violence, and racism. This is a powerful film depicting the desperate struggles for survival, the horror of the inner-city world of drive-by shootings, and the seemingly unbreakable cycle of violence and hopelessness
LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 digital video transfer was made from an intermediate positive with the 2 track magnetic Dolby Stereo® master. The color fidelity is excellent as is the pristine picture.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is not exceptional with music providing limited subtle surround envelopment. The sound is essentially mono.
