Story Synopsis:
The Lover is the uncensored erotic and romantic tale of a poor 15 year old French school girl (Jane March), living in 1929 French colonial Vietnam, and her sexual awakening and torrid love affair with a rich Chinese man (Tony Leung) who is twice her age. Their relationship is doomed by differences in race, age and class but their desire brings them together despite these obstacles. The story, based on the best-selling autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras, is lovingly told and a joy to watch. It is one of the best films ever produced.
