Story Synopsis:
John Huston’s The Unforgiven is based on a novel by Alan LeMay and stars Burt Lancaster, Audrey Hepburn, and Lillian Gish. This is a story about the bloodshed that results when two races are incapable of understanding each other. The Zachary family and the other white settlers in their community live behind a benevolent peace-loving facade until Zacharys’ daughter, Rachel, is accused of being an Indian, which sparks the community’s true resentment and deep hatred for the Indians. While provocative, The Unforgiven is packed with suspense, romance, and gunslinging action and adventure through the Texas wilderness.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture accurately duplicates the original Panavision® 2.35:1 composition. Color fidelity is excellent with saturated colors, good contrast and natural fleshtones. Blacks are solid, shadow detail is good and images are sharply defined. The transfer is very clean with only very minor artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The undistinguished monaural soundtrack is of low fidelity with substantially compressed dynamics.
