WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Unusually surrealistic remake of 1942 horror classic, here with Kinski a woman who is cursed to turn into a panther (as is her brother, Malcolm McDowell) who unfortunately (and vice versa) falls in love with zoo keeper Heard. Plenty of dream sequences, blood and gore. Great David Bowie theme song.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Noticeable grain results in images that ap-pear blotched and lacking in detail. Many scenes are filtered but colors look solid. Flesh tones are inconsistent in some scenes, while in others, they are exceptionally natural in their appearance. The picture suffers from slight noise artifacts as well. Contrast, however is excellent and overall the picture is pleasing.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
T he soundtrack has an excellent sense of surround envelopment in several scenes that effectively heightens the suspense. Giorgio Moroder’s electronic score fills the room with its haunting ambiance. Then there’s the deep growls and roars of the cats. What a treat.
