WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
In the special-effects thriller Anaconda, a documentary film crew embarks on a river expedition to find the legendary and undocumented Shirishama Indians. Along the way, they encounter Paul Sarone (Jon Voight), a charismatic loner with a professed knowledge of the elusive tribe. But Sarone has his own motives for driving the crew deeper into the jungles—to track a lethal 40-foot Anaconda—sacrificing anything and anyone to find the deadly serpent.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, exhibits an overall dark character throughout. Some interior scenes seem plugged up and slightly oversaturated with reddish fleshtones and deep, undefined blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed and the slightest noise and artifacts are apparent.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The PCM Dolby® Surround soundtrack is engaging with an aggressive presence. The music score is well recorded with excellent soundstage imaging, but the ADR-produced dialogue sounds strident and wanting in spatial integration. Nonetheless, this is a pleasing sonic experience.
