WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
Divided By Hate stars Tom Skerritt as the Reverend Steve Riordan, a minister in the fertile hills of the farm belt in 1984. Louis Gibbs (Dylan Walsh), his wife Carol (Andrea Roth) and their three children have been hurt by the economic downturn; and their circumstances are becoming desperate. Using his influence to sway those in unfortunate situations, the Reverend brainwashes Carol and Gibbs’ children with promises of a better life if they follow him. Ultimately, a showdown involving the FBI and the Reverend’s militia places Louis and his family in grave danger as they try to escape the cult’s infuences.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.80:1, exhibits a warm quality throughout with rich, natural colors, accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. The picture is often sharp and detailed with good shadow detail and contrast, but occasionally exhibits soft, out of focus images. Slight noise is apparent in interiors, but there are virtually no artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack is conventional with mostly monaural directed scenes complemented with a stereo music score and occasional sound effects. Dialogue is wanting in spatial integration
