WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
The Prophecy is the chilling supernatural thriller about Thomas Dagget, a Los Angeles homicide detective (Elias Koteas) who, while investigating a mysterious murder, stumbles across an ancient Bible containing a lost chapter of the Book Of Revelations. He soon teams up with an elementary school teacher (Virginia Madsen) in a battle against the powerful and evil archangel Gabriel (Christopher Walken) who is searching for the darkest human soul to join him in a war to be waged by angels on the earth out of jealousy of God’s love for humans.
LaserDisc Picture:
The widescreen picture is framed at 2.35:1 and is superb in image quality. Color fidelity is excellent with natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, and while shadow detail is good, some scenes are a bit too dark. The picture is solid with no noise or artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is well executed, especially the opening scene in a cathedral in which the priest says Mass against a chorus recorded with aggressive surrounds. Dialogue is naturally presented and surround effects are used effectively to create a sense of surround envelopment.
