Story Synopsis:
The Juror, based on the book by George Dawes Green, is a frightening psychological thriller about an unwitting juror in a mafia trial. Demi Moore stars as Annie Laird, a struggling single mother who is chosen to serve on the jury for the trial of a crime boss, Louie Boffano (Tony Lo Bianco), accused of a contract killing. In order to insure an acquittal, Boffano hires a shadowy figure known as “The Teacher” (Alec Baldwin) to “convince” Annie to sway the other jurors’ votes to not guilty, otherwise her son will be killed. With her son’s life at stake, Annie must find the inner strength to defeat The Teacher herself, after her attempts to get help from a corrupt judge fail and her best friend “commits suicide.”
LaserDisc Picture:
The aspect ratio is 2.35:1. Color fidelity is excellent with natural flehstones, deep, solid blacks, and vivid colors. Images are sharp and detailed and shadow detail is excellent. Slight noise is apparent in the darker scenes, but there are no artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is veiled sounding with the dialogue, while generally well integrated, wanting in natural presence. Bass extension is deep and powerful, and sound effects are directionalized and often mixed into the surrounds. Effects sound muffled while the music is expansive and the best element in the mix.
